Home Sweet
Home, and all that
Nice
word count, eh? Of course, I'm supposed to be up to 14,000 as of
today.
At
least I'm finally in the townhouse, AND the phone lines are hot.
Presumably the cable is, since the same company supplies phone and
cable service.
Actually,
lemme check. . .
Yep,
it's on. This place comes with one of those mini-TVs in the kitchen
so that you can watch movies (or ostensibly cooking programs) while
you slave over a hot stove. And since I definitely got one of the
movie channels, I can only assume the cable is live and hot.
Whee.
Now all I need is a real TV for the living room. Well, that and
some furniture. I do have three nice torchiere lamps and a regular
standing lamp, though, which is good because the company that built
this place was farthinking enough to install fans in all the bedrooms
but too cheap to pop for the associated light kits. Of course, that's
easily remedied, but it'll take some time, and I also have to wait
for them to deliver the rental washer and dryer.
But
the place itself is gorgeous. It's technically a townhouse -- the
first floor is a two-car garage. Go up a long flight of stairs,
and you're in our foyer, with a built-in bookcase on one side and
a desk niche set up for the Internet on the other (three guesses
where I'm sitting right now with my new office chair). Next to the
entrance is the laundry room, with space for a full-sized washer
and dryer and the hot water heater.
The
main bedroom -- huge, airy and connected to the balcony -- is off
to the right of the foyer, as is the main bedroom's en suite bathroom
(with attendant jacuzzi) and huge walk-in closet that will serve
as my office in a pinch. To the left of the foyer is what I'm calling
the guest wing -- two bedrooms, both large and with walk-in closets,
a hall closet for jackets and such, and a second bathroom with shower
stall instead of tub.
Continue
through the foyer, and you're in the living-dining room. A cathedral
ceiling vaults over you, and a bay window is directly in front of
you, defining the dining space. The living room itself is lined
with windows on two sides, and has a wood-burning fireplace. Off
to the right of this is the kitchen, a largish space with good storage,
a separate pantry and room for a breakfast table. The kitchen also
joins onto the balcony, which has additional storage space behind
a lockable door. The color scheme is in warm neutrals -- sage carpeting,
beige walls, sand tiles on the floors. A sprinkler system serves
the entire apartment, and ceiling fans and smoke alarms are in all
the bedrooms and living room.
Think
big. Think airy and light. Think echoing.
Now
think of me sitting here, grinning wearily in the glow of a torchiere
lamp.
Oh,
yeah. So
if you'll excuse me, I do believe there's a jacuzzi with my name
on it. . .
