Oh. My. God.
I
would like to take this opportunity to announce that as of today,
I am no longer a lady of leisure. As of this afternoon, I ams now
an employed contract technical writer, and I start work on Monday.
That gale-force
wind you can feel is the sigh of relief emanating from Plano, with
a smaller gust coming from Stockholm. Best of all, I can still
go to Worldcon -- when I explained the situation to the hiring
manager at the Client (who is an absolute peach) he said they can
work around my schedule and I shouldn't have to skip something I
already had planned.
And the work
looks interesting, and I can wear jeans to work, and when I sign
up for medical benefits I can use my old PPO (which means no switching
doctors), and while the money is less than what I was making at
TBS, I'm also a contractor this time, which means I get paid for
every hour I work (unlike TBS, where anything over 40 hours a week
was considered just part of the job and not really overttime because
I wasn't supposed to have a life outside work, was I?). Admittedly
I have to get a Toll Tag and the drive will be moderately hellish,
but hey, that's what audio books are for.
So, now that
I know I'm not moving AND I will have money coming in AND Lyndon
will be over for at least a week in September, we're going to go
ahead and throw our long-delayed housewarming party when he's here.
The dates and times are still to be announced, since I need to find
out when he'll be here and what Saturday will be best for the party,
but once I have news about that I'll be disseminating it to the
masses.
Phoo. Now I
just have to start getting used to getting up at 7:00 am again.
