Thursday, Happy Trettondedag Jul (13th Day of Christmas). This is kind of a national holiday in Sweden -- last night was Twelfth Night, and apparently there were tons of parties in and around Stockholm celebrating it. I think tomorrow is Eastern Orthodox Christmas (as measured by the Julian calendar) -- so much for my Serbian Orthodoxy. In any case, if anyone out there is Eastern Orthodox, Merry Christmas. Uh, I think I'm a little more rational today (quite possibly because I spent a large part of it asleep). Felt good enough to walk up to the store with Tina and pick up some food and a frame for this new picture we got in Sergelstorg (there's an artist there who does this great fantasyscapes with spray enamel, newspaper, and various stencils -- we already have one of his pictures in the Green Room), then staggered home and realized I just wanted to take another nap. That's the worst thing about this damn flu strain, I think -- it just knocks you out so completely. Speaking of colds and flu, I was watching Sky News a couple of days ago, and they had this interview with a doctor from some cold research center in Cardiff. In the middle of this damned flu outbreak, he recommended one thing as a great remedy for colds and flu -- curry. Apparently a really nice, hot curry, like a vindaloo or a madras, encourages mucus production and helps clear out the virus from your system faster, and the active ingredient in peppers (starts with a C, none of my dictionaries have it -- capiscin or something like that) and the chemicals in garlic and onions are good antiviral agents. There's a joke in there about a vindaloo a day keeping the doctor away, but I don't think I'm going to go there. |
