Sunday, Well, there's a good side, and a bad side. On the good side, I wrote 4,000+ words today. On the bad side, it was for a short story. I blame Lyndon, I really do. We woke up this morning, and he started telling me about this dream he had where he was sharing a house with some other people, like he was back at university, and he went next door to borrow something. When he got there, he realized that the neighbors were rehearsing lines of what they were going to say that day in normal conversation, and that if he came back later he could watch them "performing." ![]() Which just started me thinking -- why would people rehearse everyday chat? And boom, we were off -- "Dress Rehearsal" stands at 4,063 words so far, and I'm going to try and finish it tonight. I don't exactly have a list of resolutions (since I never actually do them -- besides, that's all a little too structured for this Focus of Mayhem), but one thing I do want to try this year is get more short stories written and out there so that I can establish some name recognition when (note: not if -- when) the book comes out. I also want to try and get at least three stories submitted to the upcoming SFF.Net anthology -- this year's theme is "The Age of Wonders" and focuses on the interface between man and machine (the submission guidelines are at http://www.sff.net/books/guidelines.html if anyone's interested). "Dress Rehearsal" won't be appropriate, but I think I have two stories from the Story Dare that should fit the guidelines, and I have another idea currently in embryonic form that might also work. I'm going right back to that insane writing schedule again, I see. Oh, well -- it's winter in Sweden, and we have five hours of sunlight a day. It's not like I need a life. It is still so weird to be writing journal entries with a "00" prefix. This really is 2000, isn't it? Cool. |
