Listening to: CD1, The Blues Brothers Complete

Well, hell, everybody else posts what's on the CD player while they're doing their entries -- at least you know why I'm chair dancing at the moment.

And oh sweet God, I would kill to be in a band again -- someday, I shall recount the tale of the Blues Brothers band we formed in high school (hey, we were in Chicago, we were children of the 80's, we were all in the Symphonic Band -- it was practically mandatory to dress up in black suits and porkpie hats and sing bad cover versions of R&B classics) and the various parties, adventures and drinking games we had. Well, maybe not the drinking games -- that's how I wound up accidentially swallowing a quarter one night. Ah, memories. . .

Yet another reason for returning to the homeland -- all the better to find other frustrated musicians, my dear (yes, Julia, I know -- another reason to take a contract in Texas). It's bad enough that I'm digging out my ancient acoustic 6-string and running through the bits of sheet music I have floating around here -- having a keyboard would be sweet. Yet another thing for the wish list, I suppose (right behind the G3 tower, the Powerbook, the Fender 12-string, the cello, and a permanent transporter link to my sister's house). At least I've been able to resist the urge to write songs so far, although it's getting to the point where I'm eyeing the piano in the break area at work and wondering when everyone on the floor will be gone.

Stop me before I lyricise again!

Took Lyndon to the airport this afternoon, and watched sadly while he went through Security and kept turning around to wave at me. Poor baby -- he really didn't want to go on this trip, but apparently things would have gotten disasterous if someone didn't go, so he got tapped for the job. If you add the Cali vacation, he spent almost six months out of the country last year -- that's enough to permanently fry anyone's enthusiasm for international travel.

He called me from Reykjavik Airport where he was changing planes and described the scenery as "shades of white and grey." Boston should be somewhat more colorful, but from the sounds of things he won't have much of an opportunity to do any sightseeing or shopping. At least he'll be able to get some writing done.

Afterwards, it was cheaper to take a flygbuss to Kista and cab it home from there, so I headed into work for a couple of hours to get some stuff done on the WINE presentations. We're going to be doing a package for the document database system, and the project manager asked me if I'd be willing to do vocals for it, so I got to dig out my headset and experiment with various sound systems.

And yes, just in case you've ever wondered what a Chicago accent sounds like after seven years of international travel, you can now find out in radio quality (90K) or CD quality (355K). Now I just have to figure out how we should integrate some of this stuff into WINE -- I wish I knew more Flash. Wonder if Learning Tree offers any graphics courses. . .
