Monday, Ooooooooeeeerrrgghhh. Jet lag is not fun. Especially when you have to go to work. Needless to say, I was not at my most sparkling today, but it was pretty quiet in any case, thank Allah. And I did perk up a bit when I talked about San Francisco and the rest of California (oh, God, I want to go back soooooo badly). And as soon as a tech came up and fiddled with the connection to my computer (people had come into my office while I was gone to paint the windows, and they unplugged the computer so that they could move the desk back. When they plugged it back in, they plugged it into the wrong socket. Oy), I even had email and access to the net. Whee. I also had 92 pieces of business email, almost half of which were automatic distribution announcements that went straight into the circular file. For my work address, this is a pretty big horkin' chunk. A few pieces were personal, the majority of it had to do with my two projects, and one was a very sweet and slightly worried email from a co-worker who is mentioned on my welcome page as part of an example of my current Swedish fluency level. He was slightly worried about my statement that he was sarcastic -- I would like to announce here that, contrary to previous statements, Jörgen is not sarcastic. But he does have a very English sense of humor, which is part of the reason why he's a fun guy to have around the office (one of these days, I want to get him together with Lyndon and see what happens). Hey, Jörgen! KILLER BEE! BZZZZZZZZZZZZ! In any case, I'm home, waiting for some spaghetti sauce (you won't believe how many times I had to retype that -- I swear, my fingers are falling asleep on me) to simmer. As soon as that's cooked and consumed, I'm going to do at least an hour's worth of writing. See, the SFF.Net Story Dare starts today -- all participants have to finish a story a week for the next eight weeks. The stories don't have to be polished, or submission-ready, or even proofread -- they just have to be finished. And considering that I have a slew of good story fragments littering my hard drive, I wanna see if I can use this as some impetus to finish the little buggers. Would be nice to have a few more publications under my belt before the end of the year, dontchaknow. |
