Wednesday, First of all:
Happy Birthday to me Okay, that's better. Now on with our regularly scheduled entry. The Vote On Lyndon's Beard is proceeding apace, with 12 votes in so far -- all for, none against. He's harrumphing a bit at this, but I think he's reassured that he doesn't look like a complete plonker (although he's been threatening to get his hair cut really short since he keeps insisting that he's balding. I told him that if he did do that, he'd look like Grant and Phil's goofy cousin Rodney¹. Which, naturally, prompts him to vocalize an extremely funny crossover between EASTENDERS and ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES² -- I really need to keep a closer eye on his blood sugar levels. But at least it looks like he may keep the beard for the weekend. Speaking of the weekend, I'm dashing around like a blue-arsed fly trying to get everything ready for the flight to London. We've got the presents, Lyndon's jacket is cleaned and pressed, and most of our clothes are ready -- I just have to get my butt in gear and work on fixing my outfit. I bought this gorgeous one-off dress in Germany while I was on a business trip -- it's subtle blue-grey, raglan sleeves, peplum top, skirt made of overlapping panels, very nice. Problem it, it was also made for a woman about five sizes smaller than me. But I really couldn't resist it, so I bought it figuring that I could either diet into it or alter it to fit me. Looks like I'll be taking the latter method. ------------------------------- ¹ English soap EASTENDERS -- the characters Grant and Phil are two brothers who are "hard men" in the East End of London, and they both have extremely close-cropped hair. I'm sure that they're both charming men in real life, but this isn't exactly the look I want to wake up next to every morning.
² English comedy ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES -- "Del Boy" and Rodney are also brothers in London's East End; Del Boy is a "wide boy," part grifter and part salesman, and Rodney is usually appalled at the latest scam Del Boy's gotten himself into. Del Boy's favorite term for Rodney is "You Plonker." The thought of teaming these two up with Grant and Phil is. . .interesting. |
