Thursday, Well, the germ got around to blooming into a full-blown story idea while I was at work today, and this puppy wants to come out now. So I've put "Daughters of Men" on hold and I've got the CITY OF ANGELS soundtrack in the CD-ROM tray -- that should give you an idea of the theme. No, it's not sex. Well, there's some sex in the story, but it's not the thrust. . .erm, uh, point, yeah, the point of the story (good save, Mel -- not). To be perfectly honest, it's a semi-reworking of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but it's a cool idea. I can't go into a lot of detail about it, but the theme is, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- or ear, as the case may be." And it even has a happy ending -- I need something to cheer me up after yesterday. Hey, at least I'm not pulling a Disney and completely mangling the storyline while keeping the original title (I swear, there's gonna be a tsunami of flunking grades in a few years from kids who rented the animated HUNCHBACK and Demi Moore's version of THE SCARLET LETTER instead of reading the books. I can just hear it now -- "But Mrs. Finstermeyer, why did I get an F? Whaddya mean, Quasimodo died? And Esmerelda, too? But. . .but. . .there were three singing gargoyles, right?"). Feel that vibration? That's Victor Hugo, spinning in his grave. God help him if the Mouse ever wants to make an animated "Les Miz". . . |
