Okay, I might as well face it -- I'm not going to finish the book by tomorrow. It was a good effort, and I gave it my best, but we have a guest staying with us for the next four days, and I'm simply not going to be able to devote the time necessary for finishing this mother before the 31st.

Well, poop. Yeah, that bums me out a bit -- I was really looking forward to starting off 2000 with a finished MS and nothing to do but edit it. I guess I just have to keep slogging until it's done. Although 19,761 words in 30 days isn't anything to sneeze at, either, and I should be able to bump that over the 20,000 mark by tomorrow. Okay, I'll consider this a mini-victory.

But I still wish I'd finished the damn thing.

That said, I have decided that I'm going to enjoy myself for the next couple of days -- after the last few crazy months, I earned it. So tonight we had a lovely time wandering around Stockholm with Christian, a friend of Lyndon's who's going to spend New Year's Eve with us (I refuse to call it Millennium Night. I will call 2000 the Millennium Year if necessary, but the Third Millennium does not start until January 1, 2001, no matter what the popular press says).

It was tonight when Tina and I discovered that Christian is a paragon among straight men -- we found this shop with the most stunning velvet clothes (expensive suckers, but gorgeous. I really have to do some more sewing once I have a bit more free time), and not only did he accompany us inside, he didn't seem to be marking time or acting impatient whatsoever. We were suitably impressed.

And Lyndon? He dashed around the corner to a nearby McDonald's for a hamburger while we were oohing and aahing over the velvets. Granted, however, he hadn't eaten anything all day and was getting to the "low blood sugar = Monty Python on crack" stage, so that was probably for the best.
