Day Four

Con wrap-up day.

Traditionally, today is the slowest and quietest of all days. People attend a few panels, but they're mosly concerned with packing and checking out, finding someplace to stash their bags while they make a last run of the dealer's room, and spending time with friends. Since we're staying until tomorrow, we could skip the first two events and just hang out with people. Which is what we did -- Lyndon wrapped up his Star Wars game, and I helped Vera and Tippi clean up and check out of the SFF.Net suite and cart their mounds of stuff off to Vera's car with the help of a friendly porter named Fred (who, I suspect, is an actor when he's not carting bags around -- nice guy, and very tolerant of us singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" at full volume while we cleaned), then we collapsed in the pit of the hotel lobby and sat around -- you guessed it -- talking. Well, they talked and I crocheted -- got three squares done already, and it's looking faaaaaabulous, darling.

Eventually, it came time for Vera and Tippi to leave for destinations unknown, so it was down to Kytte and me for a bit until yet more people gravitated towards the pit. Eventually, a group of Kytte and two Toms wandered off for dinner while I segued up to the room to find Lyndon, who was grabbing a nap, and drag him down to the Cafe Del Sol for a final meal. And yet again, we failed to make it to the pool, so it looks like I'm going to have to inaugurate my new goggles in the Pacific.

One thing that I didn't expect about today -- in addition to the Dead Dog party, there was one last bid party, the UK in 2005 bash (I assume because they weren't flying back to Europe until Monday), which we signed up for as a matter of course. Worldcon in Brighton or Glasgow -- I know Glasgow could work from Intersection, but I would love to have a Worldcon in Brighton. It's a gorgeous little town, and spending a few days there with fen would be a ball. Lyndon, Kytte and I staggered around for a little while after that, but we finally set off for our separate rooms around 1:00 am or so, with a promise to meet up for breakfast tomorrow. Thank Allah I grabbed some time on Saturday and washed all our dirty clothes -- makes packing that much easier.
