Candy Colors
This
is a baby quilt I did for my friend Kiet. I originally found
the batik background fabric at the Dallas Quilt Festival,
and fell in love with it. When I learned that Kiet's wife
was expecting, I decided to use it in yet another of my tropical-colored
baby quilts.
I
cut out 12 shapes that would appeal to babies, transferred
them to double-sided fusible web and ironed those onto blue,
red, orange and green batik fabrics, then cut out the shapes
again and fused those onto squares of the background material.
Each shape was then edged with a blanket stitch, and some
received additional embroidering.
To
finish it, I sewed the squares into a latticework with borders
of pink, blue, green, purple and yellow marbled sashing, added
a surround of the background fabric, then did stitch in the
ditch around each shape, square and sashing.
Baby
Travis adores it, and apparently likes to play on it. I seem
to be starting something of a tradition with my toy-like kids
quilts.
