Silver/Green "Fur" Hat
I
was going to England and Scotland for the 2005 Worldcon, and
despite the fact that it would be in August I knew that Scotland
at least would be somewhat chilly at night. So, while wandering
through Hobby Lobby, I stumbled some great multicolored bulky
fashion yarn (Springtime) from Caron that would look faboo
with a green corduroy jacket I bought for the trip.
Once I had the yarn, I figured I'd make myself a fur hat (hey, I'm 3/4 Slavic and I look STYLIN' in a Santa Claus hat), with the Caron Springtime forming the body of the hat and Lion Brand silver-grey Fun Fur for the "fur" trim. After hunting around for something form-fitting, I found a simple pattern for a crocheted rolled cap, finished the body and added the fur trim.
At first I tried wearing it cloche-style -- that was okay, but not really what I wanted. Then I remembered how I wear the Santa Claus hat -- tipped rakishly to one side with the bobble hanging over my shoulder. So I did that, and tugged the extra body over in a little flip, and DAMN I like it.
