The Lighthouse and Lighthouse Keeper's Cabin
This
was my project for Christmas 2003 -- we weren't going anywhere, I'd always wanted this kit, and I found it on eBay for what seemed to be an absolutely incredible steal, almost half of what it went for at Hobby Lobby, especially since the seller was throwing in the keeper's cabin for free.
When it arrived, I was surprised that it was so bloody small. Upon opening it, I discovered why it went for such a steal -- it was a 1/2 size kit, not the usual foot to the inch kit. Taught me to read the description more closely next time.
Nevertheless, I put it together, and it turned out rather nice. The lighthouse has a working lightbulb with flashing circuit breaker, and the cabin has a loft with a ladder. I'm now on the lookout for appropriate furniture -- Lyndon had bought a bunch of dollhouse furniture for me the last time he was in England, and among the sets was a 1/2 size living room set, so that's been installed as temporary furniture. I have to find some cabin-style furniture, and I may just make some of the stuff for the lighthouse, since I doubt it'll be easy to find.
Luckily a dollhouse company already makes a 1/2 size lighthouse keeper. Next time I see him at Hobby Lobby, he's mine. |
